WHAT IS PRP

PRP stands for Platelet-Rich Plasma which means plasma with a high concentration of platelets, which we get from the patient’s blood that we spin in a centrifuge to separate the layers and then inject back into the scalp again. A good quality PRP will depend on the choice of tubes or tubes that are specifically designed for easy extracting as well as a high-quality centrifuge.

  • WHAT IS PRP?

  • HOW DOES PRP WORK?

Simply speaking, the hair will receive more nutrients from the plasma that has a high concentration of platelets, which when we inject it back, it will make the hair strong again and smaller hair will be as thick as before.

  • PRP IS NOT FOR EVERYONE

If you understand the principle in item 2, then you will understand that PRP will work if you still have hair to nourish, so this treatment approach is suitable for patients with early to moderate thinning hair problems. However, if it’s severe to the point of baldness, then PRP treatment won’t be the answer.

  • IS PRP AS EFFECTIVE AS MEDICATION?

You have to first understand that the mechanism of action of these 2 treatments is different. The medications we take to treat hair loss and thinning hair directly address the root cause by reducing the level of DHT by about 70%, but doing PRP is like maintenance. Hair follicles, which are more end-stage treatments in terms of PRP efficacy, are therefore not comparable to taking medicines, however, PRP will become an alternative for patients who cannot take medication.

  • HOW OFTEN SHOULD PRP BE DONE?

There really isn’t a fixed rule for doing PRP, each doctor has a different guideline, but at Hairsmith Clinic, I recommend doing it once a month for three months, then every three to six months.

  • HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO SEE RESULTS?

In the treatment of hair loss, and thinning hair, there is no method that shows results in a short time. The medicine takes 6-12 months to see significant results. A hair transplant takes 12-18 months to fully grow. PRP is the same. Patients will start to see results clearly after 6 months onwards.

At Hairsmith Clinic, we use a special PRP tube which is a closed system without contamination, resulting in 12-17 times the concentration of PRP in just 1 spin. And it takes only 5-10 minutes to spin, which saves more time than normal tubes that generally must be blended 2-3 times.
