First, you have to understand that you cannot repeat surgery over and over again. Hair transplant is not to increase the number of hair but to move the hair from a permanent area at the back of the head to transplant into the problem area. Which means your hair at the permanent area is “LIMITED”.
A hair transplant with FUT technique doesn’t really have any issues. Still, the related issues that we’re talking about are often found with the FUE technique more. It’s because the permanent area (Donor Area) is limited. If that area is being over-harvested, then the back of the head will be too thin.
THE PHOTO EXAMPLE FROM ISHRS
If a surgeon is not experienced, in the graft excision process, a poor distribution can occur when the areas of graft excision are not spread evenly enough. It can cause thin patches to those areas. You can see the picture here. If this issue happens, it isn’t easy to fix. The patient might need to wear the hair longer to cover the thin areas or worse. He has to get a Scalp Micropigmentation to make the thin areas look as dark as the hair.
Therefore I often recommend FUE technique for the case that needs not more than 3,000 grafts because if harvesting more than this, at the back of the head will be way too thin. You can see more examples of poor distribution cases on the RealSelf blog from the link below.
